Ali Edwards’ Week in the Life project has been going on this week and Studio Calico asked me to play along this year by completing a day in the life spread to share on their blog. They’ve been showcasing different ways and tips for completing this type of project all week and today is my turn! I’ve posted my completed layout here, but head on over to the SC blog to read about my thoughts on the project plus a video of how I put it together. :)
I wanted to share a couple of sneak peeks of projects I’ve been working on for the Letterpress class at Studio Calico. Class enrollment is STILL OPEN until September 15th, so be sure to sign up soon! The lessons that have been posted so far are awesome. Here are two peeks, both using the blind impressions technique. Hope to see you in class!
The September kit at SC is live (for subscribers… non subbers can purchase at midnight tonight!)! I used the main scrapbooking kit, the main Project Life kit, and two scrapbook add ons: Sprinkles and Licorice. Be sure to check out the other add ons… especially the PL card ones. I wish I had ordered some of those!
Yorktown: This is my main kit only layout this month. To be honest… I re-did it a couple times and still couldn’t get it quite right. Sigh. I love the frame patterned paper though and the colors in that ombre paper I backed them with.
Be True, Be You: I LOVE the Lindsay Letters stamp in the Cotton Candy Stamp Add On. It’s just gorgeous! I used the diamond outline stamp here on various patterned papers to make my own background design.
Boo: Each time SC offers a Halloween themed add on, I grab it! I just think Halloween stuff is so fun! I used the letter cut files with my Silhouette to create the large title and then filled in the “o”s with pics.
Happy Halloween: Another Halloween page, this time using Catherine’s awesome template. Love how you just drop your photo in and it looks fabulous! I added some of the vellum tape and that super fun alpha roller stamp from the PL kit.
Have a great day!
Look what’s coming in September!!
Studio Calico’s next class will be all about letterpress! You can read all about the class and find links to the class supplies here. The tool is easy to use right out of the box (you DO need a manual die cutting machine to use it though! I used the Evolution…), and the results are beautiful! I created a quick filler card for Project Life last night.
The silver ink is sort of sparkly and gorgeous in real life. LOVE it! You can see the “plate” behind it (it came with my machine, not sure if it will come in the ones at SC – just a disclaimer!) along with the brayer. You do need to use the thick letterpress paper to get a nice impression. The plate designs they’ve come up with are beautiful!! (You’ll probably recognize a few of our favorite stamp designs!) And the whole look of letterpress is so elegant and classy…it really adds an extra special feel to your project.
Be sure to register by the end of August! Class will start on September 1st! See you there!
Beautiful colors and patterns, super fun stamps and very cool embellishments (hello cork shapes/alphas and chalkboard tape?!) make SC’s newest kit a lot of fun to scrap with! (I especially LOVE the stamp in the PL kit and will be using it lots in the future I’m sure!)
Nashville: For this page I use the Kal Barteski cut file for my silhouette. I decided to go big with it and use my many photos as borders almost. Love that patterned paper that looks like it has lots of washi strips on it! I used the Amy Tan stitching template to make the stars…stitching across and all over the shape to make some string art.
Eight: I love the hearts 4×6 card from the PL kit and decided to outline the hearts with some stitching to brighten it up a little. I die cut the big “8″ and then journaled around the edges.
You are Here Summer: I cut the wave design in my background paper (after first sizing it to just barely fit the height of the alpha stickers) and then filled in the waves with different summer/pool themed words. The quote bubble is one of the stitching templates and there’s that fun PL stamp again! :)
What’s ending up in your SC cart today?! :)
It’s time to reveal the newest collections from Studio Calico at the trade show in Las Vegas! Always such a fun time in the crafting world…and so wish I was there in person and not just represented in paper. ;) Oh well… at least I was able to enjoy working with two of the new lines last week!
This is MAGICAL! It seems lots of manufacturers release a holiday themed line at the summer show, so what makes SC’s special? I think the color combo is fun with grey and pale blue mixed in. And my favorite item of this line is the kraft tag pack. I used those tags on all my pages…including the non-Christmas ones! Love them! Here’s the booth sample page I created with Magical:
Hard to remember my littlest being that little! :)
And speaking of little ones… STORY TIME is going to be a must have collection for anyone scrapbooking baby’s first year or really any sweet childhood memories. I created one baby page with it and one more generic “kid” page.
Check both lines out in the shop!
