I wanted to share a couple of sneak peeks of projects I’ve been working on for the Letterpress class at Studio Calico. Class enrollment is STILL OPEN until September 15th, so be sure to sign up soon! The lessons that have been posted so far are awesome. Here are two peeks, both using the blind impressions technique. Hope to see you in class!

Look what’s coming in September!!
Studio Calico’s next class will be all about letterpress! You can read all about the class and find links to the class supplies here. The tool is easy to use right out of the box (you DO need a manual die cutting machine to use it though! I used the Evolution…), and the results are beautiful! I created a quick filler card for Project Life last night.
The silver ink is sort of sparkly and gorgeous in real life. LOVE it! You can see the “plate” behind it (it came with my machine, not sure if it will come in the ones at SC – just a disclaimer!) along with the brayer. You do need to use the thick letterpress paper to get a nice impression. The plate designs they’ve come up with are beautiful!! (You’ll probably recognize a few of our favorite stamp designs!) And the whole look of letterpress is so elegant and classy…it really adds an extra special feel to your project.
Be sure to register by the end of August! Class will start on September 1st! See you there!
Tomorrow night at midnight (the 31st!), registration closes for my class at Studio Calico. I can’t believe on Friday Bright Ideas begins! I’m so excited!! So be sure to sign up NOW if you want to participate. Want to see a little peek at what’s in store? Here’s a screen shot from one of the PDF’s:
The crazy thing? You get 19 more like it! Each contains a challenge to get you thinking outside the box, a sample layout from either myself or one of the awesome class contributors, step by step details on how it was created, more bright ideas to get creativity rolling, AND a sketch. That’s a TON of info. One will be posted each weekday in February. In addition, each Wednesday in February I’ll post a video sharing more of my favorite tips and bright ideas for scrapbooking as well as the stand outs that week from the class gallery! I’ll be sharing bright ideas for title work, page design, embellishments, and even ways to stretch your stash and your cash. 🙂 And finally, the class freebies – amazing printables and cut files that you will use again and again. I’m so thrilled with how they turned out!
So, I hope you’ll be joining me in the Bright Ideas classroom. The class message board and gallery (full of even MORE inspiration!) will open Friday morning! See you there!
First I want to announce the winner of the spot in my Bright Ideas class…. congrats to Juliee! I’ll see you in class…. 🙂 And thanks to everyone who is following the class pinterest board. I’ll keep adding bits and pieces to it as we go.
I used some of the new Sundrifter from Studio Calico on this page. It’s such a fun collection!
And finally, check out the bonus cut files that the crazy talented Kinsey Wilson designed exclusively for the class!
I can’t get over how fun these are! The second one is actually a set of three cut files that are meant to be layered and misted with different colors to achieve a bokeh effect. How genius is that?! Here’s what Kinsey made with it:
Sooooo… class starts on the 1st of February and registration ENDS JAN. 31st! Hope to see you on the class message boards!
Happy Monday! I’ve got a couple more sneak peeks to share from my Bright Ideas class at Studio Calico. Class starts Feb. 1st and registration ENDS JANUARY 31st….so be sure to sign up soon! There will be 20 PDFs, 4+ videos, 20 sketches to accompany the PDF layouts, all those amazing printables, and lots of cut files (some of which haven’t been shown just yet!)….all for $12!!!! It’s quite a deal! Here’s a couple new sneaks for you….plus the two that are on the SC site already. (but you can see more of them here.)
I also decided to start a Pinterest board for the class. I’ve been pinning inspiration pieces onto my “secret” board for a couple months now (love this new feature at Pinterest!) and am going to start moving some of them over to the class board little by little. I’ll also be adding the sneak images there as well as the printables, cut files, etc. It’s everything for Bright Ideas all together in one place! So…would you like a chance to win a seat in my class? Well, just head over to Pinterest to “follow” the class board and then leave a comment here letting me know you did. I’ll draw a lucky winner on Friday. If you’ve already signed up for the class, you can still be entered in the drawing…if you win, you’ll be refunded your class fee!
I’m so so very excited to share this little tidbit with you. This February I’m teaching a class at Studio Calico, called Bright Ideas. Here’s the official class description:
In a creative slump? Find your way out with these BRIGHT IDEAS! Nicole Samuels will be guiding you through 20 creative challenges designed to make you look at paper and glue in a whole new light. We’ve brought together an awesome group of contributors – Adrienne Alvis, Amy Tan, Gillian Nelson, Jen Jockisch, Laura Kurz, Lexi Bridges, Lisa Truesdell, Paige Evans, Shannon Tidwell and Tina Aszmus – to help bring her challenges to life and give you even more ways to play with your supplies. Nicole and her contributors have a wide range of styles – from simple to detailed – and all have a way of looking outside the box when using their supplies.
A new PDF will be posted each weekday in February – you can work at your own pace, or challenge yourself to tackle one each day! Each PDF will contain a challenge designed to stretch your creativity, a new layout from Nicole or one of her contributors, a sketch, and extra ideas and inspiration from Nicole. In addition, Nicole will be posting a video each Wednesday sharing more bright ideas pulled from her own layouts or layouts in the class gallery. Students will also receive printables from Hello Forever and In A Creative Bubble and diecut files (.studio, .png and .svg) from Nicole and Kinsey Wilson.
The concept for this class is partly based on my experiences teaching scrapbooking classes over the years at various LSS and big conventions. In every class, no matter what the topic or level, there’s always someone who would tell me, “I never thought of that _______ (technique, or product usage, or whatever it was we were doing at that moment).” And in the same way, while I would be teaching and walking around to see how everyone was doing, I’d see something a student had done on her page and think, “why haven’t I ever thought of that?!” That’s one of my favorite parts of teaching… seeing the light bulb go off. 🙂 Seeing someone learn something new and then put their own unique twist on it so that I then learn something new. So, I thought it’d great to compile those tips and pointers into one class. The other really fun part of the class will be the daily challenges. I’ve always enjoyed a good scrapbooking challenge – they push you creatively, make you use product you might not otherwise, and sometimes make you put on your thinking cap a bit. Plus, they can help you get out of a rut…which we all get into from time to time. The cool thing about the challenges is that as we complete them and share how we did so in the class gallery… we’ll be gleaning more bright ideas from each other. Awesome. 🙂
Take a look at these lovely contributors…can’t wait to see their takes on the challenges!
Now, besides the 20 PDFs and the 4 videos…there’s also some AMAZING digital content – printables and cut files. A million thank yous to Marcy Penner of Hello Forever, Geralyn Sy of In a Creative Bubble, and Kinsey Wilson for all their incredible talent in putting these together. Love these!!!
These are from Geralyn:
And some cut files from me:
Lots of fun stuff, right? There may be more to come too…. 😉
I’ve also got a couple sneaks to share:
I can’t wait to get started in February!!! Will you be joining me? Registration is open now through the 31st of January! 🙂
